Ultimate Wow Guide – The Fail, The Ugly And The Evil Twin?
This post about ultimate wow guide is going to be totally different than what you’re probably used to.
This time I will highlight all the bad and fail aspects of ultimate wow guide and also introduce another guide that you can also consider when leveling your toon. This alternate leveling guide is just as popular as Dugi’s ultimate wow guide if not even more popular. However it’s still not free from any negative points either so I’ll cover that as well. I’ve also taken into consideration feedback from other Ultimate wow guide users that have QQ’d in wow forums etc.
So lets get into it!
Ultimate Wow Guide – The Bad
1. A tad buggy.
Well Dugi’s ultimate wow guide is considered an addon which also means that it’s kinda like a software. Now I’m sure everyone is aware that with software there’s always going to be bugs so that’s why they have bug fixes. Even when I bought Microsoft Office 2011 the other week for my wife, they released it with plenty of bugs. So with Ultimate wow guide you might find that it will sometimes tell you to pick up removed quests, doing them in an unusual order and maybe even sending you to faraway locations that helps little with your leveling.
All this can be quite annoying and is definitely going to slow down your leveling(you might even /ragequit LOL) but then again the customer support and their member forum is pretty good so you can vent you frustrations there. They do try their best to speedily come up with fixes for these bug issues so credit to them for that.
2. User Interface…Ugly?
Beauty, as they say is in the eye of the beholder. In other words beauty is a subjective issue. Personally I don’t think Dugi’s UI is ugly but I also don’t think that it’s worth writing home about. I’ve scoured quite a few wow forums and this topic seems to pop up now and then. One wow user even compared ultimate wow guide to a “cheap supermarket selling pizzas in packets of tens” while praising a competitor’s guide as being akin to a fine dining Italian restaurant. A bit exaggerated I might say but to each his own.
Some players are focussed on the “look” of the leveling guide. Some want it to just get them to level 85 as quickly as possible. For me looks aren’t that important but if Dugi wants to do his best for his customers, then I think he should look into revamping or improving the appearance of his UI. But don’t be fooled by its looks though as it’s still a pretty good leveling addon when it comes to questing.
3. Dependant On 3rd Party Addon
Unlike its nearest leveling guide competitor, Dugi’s ultimate wow guide depends on a third party addon called Tom-Tom to point the way to its questing path. Due to this dependency certain problems like the Tom-Tom waypoint arrow not showing up in Worgen starting zones or Deathknight starting zones makes it frustrating for ultimate wow guide users. Dave Farrell who is the creator of ultimate wow guide is actively working on a fix for this. But until then you need the Tom-Tom addon to use Dugi’s ultimate wow guide efficiently.
Introducing The Evil Twin Of Ultimate Wow Guide…
Zygor Guides
You might have heard about zygor guides before from the internet or your wow buddies but anyway zygor guides and ultimate wow guide have been competing against each other since vanilla wow if I’m not mistaken. Unfortunately for Dugi, zygor guides has a slightly higher Clickbank gravity which could mean that it’s selling pretty well and that quite a number of wow players are buying it. It could also mean that it’s being heavily promoted by lots of people.
But just like Dugi’s ultimate wow guide, it also has its fair share of negative points.
Zygor Guide’s Bads And Fails
- The Neverending bug issue: Again this is a common problem for all software, mods and addons. Nothing much you can do except QQ or be part of the solution. If you find any problems just submit a support ticket or head straight to the forums and let the techie geeks know about it. Believe me people love to help because they get to show off their e-peen at the same time. Most of the time your problem is quickly fixed.
- Unfair Fights : You might encounter some situations where you are expected to defeat mobs or enemies that are much higher than you. This is no problem at all if you’re totally awesome and experienced but if you are a total noob then watchout. You’ll be banging your keyboard a few times in frustration. But this doesn’t happen a lot though.
- Lacking quest info : This is another noob vs veteran issue where zygor guides could have been more noob friendly and gave more detailed quests descriptions and clean up some minor spelling errors. This can save heaps more leveling time if you are less confused about how to complete the quests. As before this is for some quests only and overall zygor guides does its job really well and can give ultimate wow guide a run for its money.

Lol at e-peen hehe. I found out that both has it’s flaws at times but it still beats leveling without an in game guide no doubt.
